Pivotal Study

A Prospective, Multicenter Validation

The CLiMB trial is a prospective, blinded, multicenter US evaluation of HelioLiver. The test reads cell-free DNA methylation alongside serum protein markers and clinical information to detect hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with cirrhosis. These results are now peer-reviewed and published in the Journal of Hepatology.

The Scale and Rigour Behind the Data

Behind HelioLiver's performance is one of the most rigorous liver cancer detection trials run to date.

1,968
Patients Enrolled

Enrolled in the pivotal CLiMB trial, one of the largest prospective HCC detection studies in the United States.

42
US Clinical Sites

The trial ran across 42 sites nationwide, reflecting real-world practice rather than a single centre.

MRI-Confirmed
Trusted Reference Standard

Every result was confirmed by MRI, anchoring the trial to a trusted clinical reference standard.

The study was led by Principal Investigator Mindie Nguyen, MD, MAS, AGAF, FAASLD, of Stanford University, working with investigators at clinical sites across the United States.

Trial Network

Participating Hospitals & Clinical Trial Sites

CLiMB was carried out with investigators and clinical teams at hospitals and academic centres across the United States. We are proud of the institutions that made this research possible.

Reading the data

HelioLiver's advantage over ultrasound is greatest for the smallest, most treatable tumours — detecting 29% of lesions under 2 cm where ultrasound detected none. At larger sizes the two converge, which is why early detection matters most.

A Consistent Body of Evidence

Validated Across Two Clinical Studies

CLiMB builds on Helio's earlier ENCORE study, published in Hepatology Communications, in which HelioLiver demonstrated 76% sensitivity for early-stage HCC — outperforming AFP (57%), the GALAD score (65%), and ultrasound (47%) at 91% specificity. Together, ENCORE and the pivotal CLiMB trial form a consistent body of evidence supporting HelioLiver's performance in high-risk patients.
